ENABLING THE NEXT GENERATION OF INNOVATORS.

STEM EDUCATION CREATES CRITICAL THINKERS AND INCREASES SCIENCE LITERACY.

Yo-STEM programs encourages underserved students in East TN to pursue STEM careers.

According to the U. S. Department of Commerce STEM occupations have a projected growth of 17%, while Non-STEM occupations has a projected growth of 9.8% by 2018. In this increase, we'd like to see the number of women and cultural minorities grow as well.

STEM SATURDAYS

FUN AND EDUCATION,

ALL IN ONE?! SIGN ME UP!

STEM Saturday is our one of a kind program dedicated to kids who just want to have fun! Hosted every other Saturday, students from near and far join us to conduct cool experiments in a session of peers and led by a YO STEM volunteer. This program typically services grades K-5th but all students are welcome to join!

OUR VOLUNTEER NEEDS:

Our goal is to create an environment where the children are able to learn from our volunteers and vice versa. With that being said, we would like volunteers who are not afraid to lead pre planned projects or even conduct experiments you find interesting!

QULIFICATION NEEDS:

  • Must be available Saturday mornings from 9:30AM - 11:30AM at Pellissippi Magnolia campus OR at Yo! STEM headquarters (2425 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave, Suite 301).
  • All volunteers must be 18 years old or older
  • Must be patient and able to encourage children through obstacles related to the projects.
We can not stress enough how much representation matters! You will be working with very curious, personable, and culturally different students. While we are grateful for any amazing community members who resonate with and want to aid in our mission, we would like a diverse category of volunteers to cater to our children. No ethnicity, age, or education level is frowned upon; we want our students to know STEM from all walks of life!
